Meanwhile, on the 7th, ahead of International Women's Day, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) leader Yoshihiko Noda gave a street speech, pledging to realize the system within the current parliamentary session. Kiyomi Tsujimoto, the party’s deputy leader, also attended and later explained to the press that the CDP intends to name the proposed bill the "Marital Same-Surname and Separate-Surname Selection Act" to emphasize that couples still have the option to choose the same surname.
